I’ve heard that the trick is not the downward plunge, but the upward pull. Try to get a good seal around the hole, then push down gently and yank up hard. Hopefully if you have a good seal it will create a lot of pressure and dislodge the clog.

TIP FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS TO USE A PLUNGER: The seal is the key. If you don’t have a good seal, it will not work.
